Gordon First Nation TLE Signing Ceremony

George Gordon First Nation
Treaty Land Entitlement Settlement Agreement Signing Ceremony
Friday, August 21st 2009

On Friday, August 21st, 2009, a ceremonial signing was held at George Gordon First Nation to commemorate the conclusion of the George Gordon First Nation Treaty Land Settlement.

Signatories were Chief Ken Sinclair, I.N.A.C. Associate Regional Director General Blair Carlson and M.L.A. Glen Hart.

Negotiations among George Gordon First Nation, Canada and Saskatchewan commenced in March 2004 and the Agreement was signed in August 2008. The T.L.E. Settlement agreement provides George Gordon First Nation with a settlement amount of $26.7 million. These Settlement dollars are cost-shared on a 70/30 basis between Canada and Saskatchewan. The provincial contribution of 30 percent is approximately $7.9 million.

This new chapter for George Gordon First Nation will bring greater economic and social development opportunities for First Nations. In turn, this extends into neigbouring communities and creates spin off benefits that have positive impacts upon the rest of the Province.
